Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) provide the basis for innovation in a wide range of products and processes across all industrial sectors and are essential to solve Europe’s major societal challenges. Industrial Biotechnologies is among the six essential KETs identified for Europe’s future competitiveness. Industrial biotechnology is one of the most promising new approaches to pollution prevention, resource conservation, and cost reduction.
Green chemistry is the invention, design, and application of chemical products and processes to reduce or to eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.
BIOKET aims at exploring the application of biotechnology to industrial processes, including new and innovative areas in the frontiers of chemistry, biology, and processing. BIOKET pays special attention to the strategies and the tools available to make biorefinery greener reducing the energy consumption, using alternative renewable natural products and ensuring high-quality emerging bio-based products, including biomaterials, biochemicals, biofuels and bioenergy.
BIOKET pays special attention to the strategies and the tools available in the industrial biotechs sector to manufacture products and providing us with new products that could not even be imagined in the past.
